IT'S SATURDAY!!!
No, not really but the children in grades k-5th grades will be singing about Saturday and all the wonderful things that go with it (watching cartoons, relaxing, doing chores:-)...........) for just a part of the spring concert.
Also at this time kindergarten is learning about singing and speaking and that there are higher and lower notes. They've been playing the Johnny 1 note song - will Johnny finally sing 2 notes or more? LOOK OUT.
The students continue to learn about notation (rhythm in 5th grade and notes on the staff for 4th and soon 6th), composers (the 3 B's, Baroque, Classical, Renaissance, Medieval, Romantic and 20th Century), form (what is a ballad? what is a cumulative song?...) and instruments (brass, percussion, strings and woodwinds and keyboards).
The 4th grade has just started playing recorders. They know 3 notes so far and will be playing songs with those 3 notes within the next couple weeks.
Our 8th grade is going to be collecting some information about 21st century musicians. What are they listening to? Why? What music will we be looking at 100 years from now? What will be said about the music in 2011 in 2111?
