Concert/Recital

The past 3 weeks for me have been FILLED with rehearsing and performances.  I was fortunate enough to be asked to play for a musical in Hillsborough, NJ earlier this month.  It was a wonderful experience to play piano with a wonderful group of instrumentalists and singers.
AT OCS - We took on the world with our concert theme: Celebrate the World.  I really enjoyed seeing how some students have really grown musically.  The singing and instrumental talent at OCS was truly evident in this concert.  NOTE: I can never thank the staff at OCS enough for making these concerts possible.
Tonight was the instrumental recital.  This gives the students an opportunity to play in an informal/smaller setting for their families.  All the students did an excellent job.  I talked to the parents tonight about how they are doing something really special for their children by having them take instrumental lessons, as I know that the music they are learning now can be something that will last a lifetime.  My son still plays trumpet (he's an accounting major and plans to be a CPA one day - but is still involved with various music ensembles).
Which brings me back to that musical I played for.  Many of those wonderful singers and instrumentalists from many different backgrounds in education, business and science came together with music still a part of their lives.
Keep playing - Keep singing OCS.

What's happening

Of course, kindergarten - 5th grade are working on the concert.  6th grade is doing the "non-instrument" projects.  7th grade just completed some of the best Early Music Games I've seen.  And 8th graders had the opportunity to share with their classmates facts and music about 21st century musicians.

COUNT DOWN TO MAY 19th!!!!

THURSDAY!!!!!  May 19th 6pm
Yes - I'll say it again - the Spring Concert this year is a Thursday - the 1st Thursday concert since I've been at OCS.
"Celebrate the World", which is the theme for this years spring concert, is starting to come together.
I think we have something from every continent (except Antarctica).  Included will be a song from the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2014 World Cup.

OUR SCHOOL SONG

The Oxford Central School Song has reach a new level with the performance of our School song by all the OCS students at the CORRECT assembly on Tuesday.   Students in grades 4th - 8th that play guitar, bass, keyboard and drums accompanied the students singing.  And with that - as the song says - "Oxford Central totally rules!!!".

CELEBRATE THE WORLD

Celebrate the World is the theme for the 2016 Spring Concert this year at OCS.  The students have already started practicing "Celebrate the World" and music from various countries including: Japan, Italy, Uganda, Taiwan, England, Israel and of course America.  The concert will feature our k-5th grade students, instrumental students and 6th - 8th grade students who enjoy singing, playing instruments and helping behind the scenes.  SAVE THE DATE!!!  THURSDAY, MAY 19TH.
